How Avengers: Infinity War Cast Members Found Out They Were Part Of The Snap

Avengers: Infinity War has one of the most shocking endings of any superhero film. With the snap of his fingers, Thanos wiped out half of the universe, Avengers included. We all expected deaths in the film, but we were unprepared for the quantity of casualties, who they were and the indiscriminate way in which they were blinked out of existence. We weren't the only ones caught off guard either. The Infinity War cast members only found out they were part of the snap the morning of shooting, as producer Trinh Tran explained:

The reaction of our talent when they found out they would be blipped on the morning of shooting the actual scene. We made a decision early on in production that we were going to be diligent about the spoilers of the film, so there were no copies given out of any of the big moments in the film just in case something happens to it. It was decided that we'd reveal, in person, to the talent that morning that some of them would not survive at the end of the film, so it was a little nerve-wracking to get the responses. Sad, surprised, etc.

It seems the shocked looks on the Avenger's faces as they faded away wasn't all acting. Like their characters, the cast found out what was going to happen right before it actually did. Given the level of secrecy around this film and the lengths the production went to in order to prevent spoilers, it makes sense to tell the actors the morning of about their character deaths to keep things as hush hush as possible. (There is one very loose-lipped cast member to consider.) Still, that must have quite a shock for the actors to hear that their character would be dying that day. It sounds like it was also strange for the people who had to tell the actors, not knowing how they would take it. As Trinh Tran told Comicbook.com, the reactions ran the gamut as you would expect from sadness to surprise and probably everything in between.

Thinking about it, it must have been at least a little bit stressful for some of the actors to not know any of the big moments in the film and what the story held for their characters in advance. In a movie with this big of a villain and vocal public speculation about who is going to die, it must have felt like a guillotine hanging over everyone's heads just waiting to drop until one day it did, suddenly and with a huge impact. Given the amount of online speculation for superhero films and other major franchise properties, tactics like this are used more often to keep audiences unspoiled and on their toes when they walk into theaters.

I think most of us expect many of the snapped characters to return in or after Avengers 4. Spider-Man has a release date to make, after all, but the who and how remains a mystery. Fortunately, we have less than a year to wait to find out. We do have some thoughts though about where those who survived the snap will be when Avengers 4 starts.

What Danny McBride Actually Thought About The Fake Dundee Movie

The fake Crocodile Dundee movie by Tourism Australia was one of the more fun and memorable promotions in recent memory. The prospect of a sequel/reboot of a well-known property arriving seemingly out of the blue was intriguing. It also had to be exciting for the all-star cast of Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home to be a part of something that was secretive and would have people talking, knowing all along that this was really an elaborate marketing campaign. For the star of the ad, Danny McBride, who played Brian Dundee, the response to the ad took him by surprise, as he explained:

I thought, personally, with the current state of movies, people for sure would assume, like, 'What a terrible idea for a movie.' And there were definitely people who thought that, but there were also people who were into the idea. I thought for a second, 'Maybe I was too harsh, this would be a cool movie.'

When the first trailer debuted, those in the film community suspected right away that something might be up, but I imagine the reaction was much different for the average person who doesn't follow movie news or read sites like this one. With all the reboots and nostalgia-mining taking place in Hollywood right now, it would be easy to believe that many thought this looked like a real movie, and a bad one at that. But perhaps the trailers did their job too well; with all the star power, humor and cinematic presentation, people took this as a real movie and one they'd like to see. As Danny McBride told Business Insider, not everyone thought Dundee looked terrible. In fact, a lot of folks were excited to see it and are still championing for it to become a reality.

I have never seen the original Crocodile Dundee films, but just based on the trailers for Dundee, you could see why people think this should become a real thing. Danny McBride was perfect playing his quintessentially Danny McBride character as a fish out of water who was the last person you would imagine to be the son of the legendary Mick Dundee. We get plenty of action and blockbuster films with doses of comedy thrown in these days, but adventure comedies that really lean into the funny elements are rarer. Perhaps that's part of the reason for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle's success.

So while on the surface if someone were to pitch you a new Crocodile Dundee movie, you might think it looks stupid, but the trailers actually sold something that looks like fun. Sadly, it does not look like Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home will become a real movie, at least not now. But that doesn't mean Danny McBride isn't interested in teaming up with Chris Hemsworth. He even has an idea of what project they can work together on, saying:

Chris and I had never worked before and we had a blast on this, so who knows, maybe me and him can come up with something to do together --- maybe we'll be the Children of Mad Max.

Yes please! Danny McBride excels when he has another fun actor to play off of, a la Walton Goggins in Vice Principals. Chris Hemsworth has continued to prove in Thor: Ragnarok and even this tourism ad that he can do comedy just as well as he does action. So if he and Danny McBride were to pair up for an action-comedy adventure, be it a post-apocalyptic Mad Max type film, a buddy cop film or just about anything else, I'm there. If they were to actually team up for a Dundee reboot, even better. And hey, Chris Hemsworth already sounds like he's on board for it.

Rocketman Banned From Samoa Over Gay Content

The new musical fantasy biopic Rocketman follows the life of Elton John. Quite unsurprisingly, the film shows that life to have been quite the wild ride. However, it seems that the new movie is a bit too wild for the nation of Samoa. The movie has been officially banned from the island nation due its depiction of homosexuality.

Somoa's official censor stated that Rocketman found itself in conflict with the country's "culture and our Christian beliefs." According to Reuters, Somoa is a 97% Christian nation and the constitution states that the nation is based on "Christian principles."

Knowing that, it's far from surprising that Rocketman found itself having a problem in Samoa. The movie doesn't tip toe around Elton John's homosexuality. It includes a fairly passionate sex scene between star Taron Egerton as John and Richard Madden as John's then manager John Reid.

It appears this decision was made somewhat late as at least one theater in the Samoan capital had advertised screenings of the film, and has now had to inform fans that the showings have been cancelled.

News that Samoa has outright banned the film follows news that Russia decided to edit the film, removing five minutes of footage that was deemed to be in violation against Russia's laws against "homosexual propaganda."

This is far from the first time that we've seen certain nations react like this, even to biopics about musicians. When Bohemian Rhapsody was released last year it saw China edit out any homosexual references. Rocketman appears to be avoiding issues in China by avoiding a Chinese release entirely.

The more mature elements of Elton John's life story have always been somewhat controversial. The singer has revealed that part of the reason it took so long to bring the story to the screen is that most studios wanted to tone down the film's sex and drug use. In that case, the issue was less a direct issue with the sex, but more a commercial desire to get the movie a PG-13 rating and thus increase the potential audience.

John insisted that those elements remain in the movie because they were representative of the life that he lived. Ultimately, he found a studio willing to produce the movie that way, and the film's $100 million worldwide gross shows that thee's still a sizable audience interested in the real story, even if the movie itself even admits that the story is also something of a fantasy.

While homosexuality has certainly become more accepted in most of the world, certainly more so than it was while many of the events of Rocketman were actually taking place, there are still many places in the world where that isn't the case.

Ultimately, it's a loss for Samoa, as Rocketman is a pretty damn good movie that now nobody in the nation will get a chance to see.
