Who This Is Us' Sterling K. Brown Plays In Black Panther

The following contains spoilers for Black Panther. Feel free to come back after you've seen it.

Sterling K. Brown has a major role in one of the biggest shows on television in This is Us, but this weekend he debuts in what is guaranteed to be the biggest movie in months, Black Panther. Brown joins an all-star cast, but his role, unlike most of the others, was shrouded in mystery, as it was never revealed exactly who he was playing. Now that Black Panther is out, we understand why, because while the role isn't particularly large, it's pivotal to the plot and would have likely revealed story points that Marvel wanted to keep hidden. Read on to learn who N'Jobu really is.

We meet Sterling K. Brown's N'Jobu in the opening of the film. He's in Oakland, California in the early 1990s and he's busy planning something in an apartment that involves the use of a lot of big guns. There's a knock on the door, which turns out to be a couple of Dora Milaje, the female soldiers of Wakanda. Not only that, but they've brought the Black Panther, T'Challa's father T'Chaka, with them.

It turns out that Sterling K. Brown's character is Wakandan, not only that, but he's the brother of T'Chaka. Unfortunately, things are not going well between the brothers, as T'Chaka is there to accuse his brother of working with Ulysses Klaue to steal Vibranium from Wakanda. N'Jobu admits his guilt but argues it's necessary because the rest of the world needs Wakandan technology in order to fight oppression throughout the globe. T'Chaka won't hear it and orders his brother to return to Wakanda to stand trial.

From there the film jumps forward to the current day and follows on the events of Captain America: Civil War. T'Chaka has died and the movie doesn't reference these earlier events until much later. Later, when T'Challa does wonder what happened all those years ago, we get into the serious spoiler territory.

When T'Challa sees that Erik Killmonger has a ring that looks like his, he begins to investigate what truly happened to his uncle. We then see the moments that immediately followed the opening sequence, where N'Jobu pulls a gun on his brother, and the Black Panther strikes back and kills him. We then learn that Killmonger is actually N'Jobu's son who found his father's body and vowed revenge.

We see Sterling K. Brown one final time, after Killmonger drinks the fluid that provides the power of the Black Panther, he has a spiritual vision of his father and the two talk. Both clearly have some regrets about the path that life has taken.

The familial relationship between T'Challa and Killmonger in Black Panther isn't based in the comics, so it's understandable why Sterling K.Brown's character was being hidden, the truth could have revealed this major plot element.




When the initial description was released, Brown's character, N'Jobu, was only described as "a figure from T'Challa aka Black Panther's past," but I needed a little more information about him.

2013s Under the Skin was certainly one of the most bizarre roles to date for Scarlett Johansson. The actress played an alien masquerading as an alluring woman who scours the streets of Glasgow for men, entices them to have sex with her and then murders them in cold blood. As it turns out, during the making of Under the Skin Johansson had quite the unconventional experience with several of the men playing opposite of her. Heres what she said:

A remarkable aspect of Under the Skin is that a lot of the people who appear in it arent actors. Theyre normal people who happen to be walking down a road minding their own business when a pretty lady pulls up in a van alongside them and offers them a lift to Tesco and then a film crew clutching disclaimers leaps out of the back.

Wait what? Many of the men featured in Under the Skin were actually picked up by Scarlett Johansson herself, whilst she was in character in short black hair. In an interview with The Guardian, she was asked at what point did director Jonathan Glazer tell her they didnt have other actors and the plan was to drift through the streets and find some during the making of the 2013 sci-fi drama? Her answer:

That happened later on. And none of us knew how it was going to work. We toyed with lots of different things like prosthetics, teeth, all kinds of things that would change my face but only slightly, when in fact there was no need to do any of that.

Under the Skin was an indie film with just a $13 million budget, which explains the lack of actors in the film. It was unclear if this method would actually work though. Would they recognize the actress? It seemed to work out in the films favor and lean into the realism of the experience.

Daily Mail spoke with one of the men who was approached by the famous actress. 29-year-old Kevin McAlinden stopped him while in her car, rolled down the window and asked Are you single? What are you doing tonight? He didnt recognize her as Scarlett Johansson, but noticed the actress undeniable beauty had recently split with his partner. He thought he won the jackpot. In his words:

I thought, 'Yes! This is unbelievable!' Id been having quite a tough time in my personal life, so this was like a lucky break. I should have known it was too good to be true.

When he got into the car, he of course was told he was being recruited for a movie role. Can you imagine? Thats Black Widow, man? Duh! Shes only the most successful actresses in the world. Either way this is a crazy story about the behind-the-scenes of Under the Skin and certainly calls for a second-viewing after learning this about it.

Theres A Fight Scene In Incredibles 2 That Fans Are Going To Love

This story will have mild spoilers for Incredibles 2, so turn back now if you want to enter the sequel knowing next to nothing.

If you paid close attention to the latest poster for Incredibles 2, you might have noticed a few interesting details that will tease happenings in the sequel. We saw the villain for the first time, the goggled menace known as Screenslaver. We caught a glimpse of new heroes The Wannabes. And you might have noticed baby Jack-Jack firing eye-beam lasers at a raccoon. Here, look:

That should be odd, until you learn that there's a fight scene in Brad Bird's upcoming sequel that the Incredibles 2 team seemed very proud and excited about, and it involves Jack-Jack taking on a raccoon. The studio showed off this lengthy scene at D23 recently, though it was in its earliest stages. During a recent trip to Pixar, CinemaBlend was able to see the final cut, and it's hilariously entertaining.

Pixar is doing what it can to keep Jack-Jack's powers under wraps for now, so I can tell you what I saw but I'll dance around some specifics. Basically, the scene proves that Bob Parr (Craig T. Nelson) doesn't quite understand the full scope of Jack-Jack's abilities. Late one night, with dad asleep on the couch, Jack-Jack spies a raccoon rummaging through the trash. Thinking that the animal looks too much like a criminal on the television set (they sport the same black mask around their eyes), the baby hero investigates, and the brawl begins. It's limited to the backyard, but it's a definite standoff between stubborn personalities, as the raccoon tries to fend off Jack-Jack's attack, only to see that he's horribly outmatched as the toddler's powers reveal themselves. We know from the first movie that Jack-Jack can immerse his body in fire, Human Torch style. The poster proves he has laser beams that can shoot from his eyes. And the raccoon scene shows off a full gamut of the baby's untapped abilities. They are a sight to see!

The Russo Brothers Address Avengers: Endgame Spoilers After Someone Recorded A Movie Screen With Their Phone And Now We All Have To Stay Off The Internet

So, I was on Twitter this morning, minding my own business and hanging out with the people I choose to follow, when suddenly I was blindsided by Avengers: Endgame spoilers. Didnt see it coming, just showed up on my screen like a surprise middle finger from Thanos. I, of course, bailed once I realized what the hell was happening. Not to make excuses, but it was early and my brain was not fully cognizant enough to play effective defense on the quick. I digress.

Thats on me. I should know the Internet by now. Its a dark place full of terrors, and the second you start absent-mindedly scrolling through random tweets, you open yourself up to all manners of deranged thought and filth. Deep down I'm aware of that, but normally if you screw up it's just infuriating conspiracy theories or gross thoughts that shouldnt have ever been typed. An Endgame spoiler is so much worse, and I just didnt see it coming, not after how hard Disney worked to keep everything quiet on this.

The Mouse House has spent the past year guarding Avengers: Endgame spoilers with a level of care and zealous dedication Ive never seen before. Journalists who attended the junket only screened 20 minutes of the film. The trailers have avoided the blow-by-blow rehash of the plot so common in todays give-everything-away-to-sell-tickets approach. Its all been very organized and careful. And then someone casually took a shitty video of the screen with his phone (or her phone in case it's a woman out there who's the worst), and now other people on social media are having their mornings ruined too because trolls, in typical troll fashion, are just passing all of those spoilers along.

Were not going to run the spoilers. Were not going to tell you whats in the spoilers. Were not going to point you in the right direction of the spoilers. Hard stop. People spent years of their lives and insane amounts of money... I cant even imagine how many soccer games were missed and family dinners had to be pushed back in order to try and end this thing properly. It was a monumental effort, and whether it ultimately lives up to my expectations or not, I want to learn all the secrets as they were intended to be revealed. I think most of you probably feel the same way. The Russo Brothers definitely do.

In fact, following this news this morning, Joe and Anthony Russo came out of the woodwork and pulled a similar stunt to the one they pulled ahead of Avengers: Endgame last year: They asked anyone to keep anything they know and anything they learn quiet until the movie is out and they have someone else who has seen the movie to share it with. But don't take it from me:

As for the jerkoff who took the video Im not a big lecture person, but how did this seem like a good idea? Disney gave you an advanced screening of Avengers: Endgame. You should have acted like a normal human being and just used all that knowledge to tease your friends about having all the answers. Thats the play here. There was an easy way to get validation without resorting to this. Now Im sure an army of smart people at Disney are on your trail, and this wont end well.

So, to sum up, there are spoilers out there. Someone took crappy cell phone videos. People are sharing the videos because trolls gonna troll, and maybe we should just all avoid using the Internet for like 10 days. We could read books or do crossword puzzles or become people that knit. Ive heard good things about knitting.

Regardless, everyone has a choice here, all you have to do is keep your wits about yourself. Maybe mute all your friends that suck for a few weeks. Buy a bomb shelter and move down there. If you have a job that requires working on the Internet, maybe just quit. Do whatever you need to do. I ended up on the wrong side of this, and its a lot less fun over here.
