Wait, Meryl Streep's Mysterious Mamma Mia Death Involved A Goat?

It was the biggest mystery surrounding Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. What happened to Donna? Meryl Streep's dancing queen from the original movie wasn't being featured in the marketing material for the summer sequel, and when people finally saw it, they realize that Streep's character, Donna, had died. So when CinemaBlend traveled to Greece to speak with the Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again cast for the DVD, we asked them if they know how Donna died, and we learned:

Hugh Skinner: Only one person knows the answer to that.Jeremy Irvine: ... and that's the goat. Did you see the goat in this movie? [laughs] It's a beautiful performance. But that's the only one who knows what really happened. And let's just say it involved the goat. That's what the writers tell us!Josh Dylan: You didn't hear it from us!Irvine: But no, the goat was involved.

There you have it, folks. CinemaBlend traveled to the other side of the globe to solve the mystery of what happened to Meryl Streep's character Donna, in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. And we learn that Donna's death is partially caused by a goat.

Now, if we're being 100% honest... we can't even remember a goat being IN Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. But that's largely because we were distracted by the dazzling dance choreography of Anthony Van Laast, by the sparking costuming of Michele Clapton, and by the radiant A-list cast. But listen, the young male co-stars confess to us that it's the goat to blame for the death of Meryl Streep's Donna. And why would these guys lie to us?

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again acts as a sequel to the original, as well as a prequel to the original. Amanda Seyfried returns to play Sophie, Donna's daughter, and she's mourning her lost mom by asking stories about the ABBA lover's past. That's when we hit the wayback machine for the stories of Young Donna (played by the luminous Lily James), where she meets the three men who will play such a significant role in her daughter's future over the course of two films.

Really, though, it's a great excuse to listen to a killer soundtrack and look at how gorgeous Greece can be.

Didn't see Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again in theaters? You are in luck. The sequel, which earned $392 million at the global box office, is available on digital today, and will reach store shelves on Blu-ray and DVD on October 23.
