New Avengers: Endgame Image Shows Chris Evans Last Day On Set
True to its title, Avengers: Endgame was the end for many stories of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of those was the story of Captain America, Steve Rogers. It was a near certainty going in that Endgame would be the last time we saw Chris Evans in the red, white, and blue, and based on the way the movie ended, that certainly looks to be the case.
Now, a new image has popped up which gives us a look behind the scenes of the production of Endgame and shows us Chris Evans on the day he officially wrapped his last scene in the movie. Check it out.
The picture comes from Jimmy Rich, who is actually the personal assistant to another important MCU actor, Robert Downey Jr. Evans is looking pretty dirty. It would appear that the last day of filming for Evans came as part of the massive final battle, as Captain America gets pretty roughed up over the course of that. Evans hasn't even had a chance to wash his face.
We actually know exactly what day this photo was taken, October 4 of last year, as Chris Evans himself tweeted out the day that he wrapped on the movie. Evans comments seemed to confirm the long held rumor that Endgame would be his last MCU production.
Technically Steve Rogers survived, and so the possibility of him returning is possible, though it would seem unlikely. Of course, since we still have basically no idea what the next phase of the MCU is going to look like, anything is possible.
At this point we expect the next MCU movie to be a Black Widow prequel story, but even that has not been officially confirmed by Disney. We likely won't get anything about Phase 4 confirmed until next month at San Diego Comic-Con, or the month after that at Disney's own D23 convention.
I do think there's a good chance Chris Evans will show up in the MCU again, though not necessarily in the way people are expecting. We know that the What If? animated series for Disney+ will see it's first episode dedicated to an alternate version of The First Avenger where Peggy Carter becomes the super soldier and Steve Rogers becomes a 1940s version of Iron Man.
Keven Feige has said that in many cases MCU voice actors will be used to voice their animated counterparts, so there's a decent chance we could hear Chris Evans again, even if we never see him.
If this picture really is the end of an era, it's great we got to see it. Avengers: Endgame is still in theaters and has already been announced to hit Disney's forthcoming streaming service, Disney+, in December.
